COMPULSORY BASIC TRAINING - CBT

The CBT is the course you need take before you can ride a motorcycle or Scooter on the road.

  • 125CC manual motorcycle  or Automatic Scooter

What do I have to bring?

  • UK Car or Provisional Driving License

  • Heavy-Denim Jeans or Motorcycle Trousers

  • Motorcycle (or Sturdy) Footwear (Covering Ankles)

  • Warm Layers

  • Lunch and Water Bottle

What will I be trained on?

  • Element A: Introduction​

  • Element B: Practical off-road training

  • Element C: Practical on-site riding

  • Element D: Practical on-road training

  • Element E: Practical on-road riding

What should I do to prepare?

  • Read the highway code and traffic signs.

  • Know main rules that apply to moped and motorcycle riders.

  • You should also look through the DVSA information on the CBT:- A guide to CBT (compulsory basic training) (safedrivingforlife.info)

When, where, and how much is it?

We carry out CBT courses every Saturday and every Sunday.

Once you've chosen a date, we'll meet at 08:30 at:

Drive onto the industrial estate and follow the road around to the left, take a left turn after the tree line and go to the end. Rider Training is on the left.

What happens after the CBT?

After you’ve completed CBT, you can ride a:

  • moped if you’re 16 or over

  • motorcycle up to 125cc and with a power output of up to 11kW if you’re 17 or over

You must use L plates (L or D plates in Wales).

You must pass your full moped or motorcycle test within 2 years, or you have to either take CBT again or stop riding.

  • Simon is one of the UK's most qualified instructors as he is not only CBT and Direct Access qualified but he also has a RoSPA Diploma in Advanced Riding.
